There are many different kinds of injuries that can occur while you’re pushing yourself at the gym or at a competition. At the Woodford Physio, I pride myself on the ability to identify your injury and design a tailored treatment plan that suits you. Here are some of the most common sports injuries that I treat at the clinic:
Among the most common sports related injuries are sprains and strains. These can occur when stretching or exerting your body during physical activity. A strain refers to tearing or overly stretching the tendons and muscles and a sprain is when the same occurs to the ligaments. Typically to alleviate the discomfort from a strain or sprain, elevation and gentle compression are used to reduce swelling and bring relief, as well as rehabilitation exercises to regain lost mobility.
Running is an excellent and accessible way to keep fit. It is also one of the most common causes of sports injury. Injuries to the Achilles tendon, which is the tendon that connects the heel bone to the calf, are among the most frequent. This tendon can stretch or tear when under stress, causing pain and reduced mobility. Shin splints are another common form of running injury, this typically occurs due to overuse and is characterised by pain and tenderness running across the shins. It is an inflammation of the tissues connecting the shin bone to muscle. Runners knee can occur when the quadriceps are over-stressed, or by using improper posture while running, causing knee pain and reduced movement. Plantar fasciitis, groin strains and Illiotibial band syndrome are all also common running injuries that are easily treatable with physiotherapy.
Suffering a fracture or dislocation during a sporting event or physical activity can be devastating, almost certainly requiring immediate hospital treatment. Whether your injury affects your neck, back, arms, hands, legs, feet or any other part of the body, I will help you with your rehabilitation and recovery, getting you back to your best and competing again. Through the use of manual manipulation and stretches I can give you back lost mobility, whilst rebuilding strength and functionality with effective rehab exercises and treatment.
ACL or your Anterior Cruciate Ligament, is one of the four ligaments which stabilise the knee. It is typically under heavy stress during activities such as running or jumping and ACL injuries generally most associated with sports such as football or basketball. At The Woodford Physio, we can help you with personalised care and support through your ACL recovery, getting you back to competing confidently and safely.
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles that surround the shoulder joint. Their purpose is to support the shoulder joint when in movement and during physical activity. A rotator cuff injury is most common among sports and activities involving large shoulder movements, such as tennis, swimming or basketball. I will work with you to assess your injury and find the most appropriate treatment to suit your needs.
Whatever your injury or circumstances, I’m here to help in a way that suits you. I will guide you through your recovery journey, assisting with personalised care and treatment to bring you the confidence you need to get back to your best. Whether your injury is minor or serious, acute or chronic, and whatever your level of sport and activity, I am dedicated to getting you back into action as soon as possible.
